The intrusion of Almajiris into the Southeast region of the country has been described as a security issue that must not be treated with a wave of the hand as Southeasterners have begun to raise alarm on the level of insecurity prompted by the unwarranted invasion amid lockdown order.

Chief Emmanuel Ibegbulam, a former Commissioner for Finance, in Abia state, while interacting with Famous Reporters blamed the intrusion on the security personnel at the various borders, as he wondered the why of their leniency to such act which according to him, jeopardizes the lives of the people.

Chief Ibegbulam insisted that state governments should reprimand the security personnel for allowing the movement of Almajiris into their states in spite of the Lockdown Order of the federal government, as instigated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s the fault of the security operatives. Why do they allow them in when Government at all levels have directed that there should be no movement and here, you don’t just allow movement, you are allowing movements of evil. So, those people must be checked out, reprimanded and handled according to law.”

He argued that “there is inter-state lockdown so who allows them across the boundaries? We should find out from our security how people manage to cross the various boundaries even when government has directed that there should be no movement especially inter- states. When we locate those who are behind it, we’ll find out those who are behind the movement of these people.”

He advised Southeast Governors to secure their boundaries, adding “and then, whoever is reprimanded should take appropriate action.

“They should find out who is moving these people into this place? Who is the driver of the vehicles and who pays the bills for their conveyance.

On the alleged use of Dangote vehicles to transport the Almajiris, Chief Ibegbulam said:
“Dangote is an individual and has so many vehicles and drivers and those people are transporters, it may not be Dangote himself that is moving the Almajiris. For instance, you have Abia Line, if you use Abia Line to transport people from one place to another, it is not the state government that is doing it. So, it may not be Dangote.”

He charged the Governors and representatives at all levels, the to fasten their belts and defend their people in order to ensure that the people are safe, Southeasterners evidently have ‘their hearts in their mouths’, from fear of the unknown.

“So, work has to be done by our Governors, our representatives, commissioners and all of our leaders to find out those who are actually behind their movements and their reason.”

I’ve earlier made a speech regarding the speech the Kaduna state Governor made, discouraging almajiri issue and I thanked him for helping his people to rethink about such system.

“The almajiri system is an inhumane system created by men and women of a particular sect and religion. Almajiris are not found everywhere in Nigeria. It was just manufactured by the Northern people for so many years.

“Almajiri issue is a responsibility and that responsibility should be kept for those who created it.”
