Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has announced that one of the patients who had initiated tested positive for the COVID-19 pandemic has been discharged from the Isolation Center having tested negative, following the intensive treatment.
It would be recalled that Governor Ikpeazu had on April 20, amidst dismay, informed Abians that the state had recorded her first index case.
He recounted that the cases were patients that were under the care of FMC Umuahia for other medical condition, saying “I’m excited today to report that we will be discharging our first successfully managed case from the isolation center in FMC.
“We’re particularly happy about this triumph as this patient is the oldest patient in the South East to make it back from COVID-19”.
According to the Governor, the patient has certified the NCDC conditions for discharge from State Isolation Center “which is having two consecutive negative results from samples tested in an NCDC accredited reference laboratory”.
The Governor commended the outstanding efforts of the team of health workers whom he said had facilitated the state’s resounding victory over the deadly disease that has been rampaging the entire nations of the world.
“His remarkable improvement is a positive highlight in the clinical management of this novel disease and we’re grateful to the team of health care workers, directly or indirectly responsible for this victory”.
Meanwhile, he urged Abians to maintain the various laid down precautionary measures such as Social Distancing, regular use of alcohol based sanitizer, personal hygiene, among others, to ensure the virus is completely eradicated from among them.
