A CONTRACT, NOT A CAMPAIGN: Chinedum Orji Says His Word Is His Bond

What if a political mandate was treated as a contract rather than a promise? Chinedum Orji says his 2027 bid is about accountability, shared responsibility and building an Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency where everyone is honoured.

Rt Hon. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji has framed his 2027 bid to represent the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency as a commitment built on hard work, accountability and service rather than empty promises.

“I do not ask for your vote with empty guarantees. I ask for your vote so that we can roll up our sleeves and do the hard, honest work of building a Federal Constituency where everyone is honoured,” Orji said.

For Chinedum Orji, the message is not simply about winning an election but about entering into what he describes as a contract with the people. His campaign says the former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly is seeking a mandate to work alongside constituents and build a Federal Constituency where everyone, regardless of background, feels respected and represented.

These are not the words of a politician looking for applause. These are the words of a man entering into a contract. Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji is not promising magic. He is not promising that Abuja will rain money on Ikwuano/Umuahia overnight. He is promising something rarer in Nigerian politics: hard work, honest work, and shared work. And when Chinedum Orji gives his word, his word is his bond.

NO EMPTY GUARANTEES, ONLY SHARED LABOUR

Every other candidate in this race is offering guarantees. Guarantees of jobs, guarantees of contracts, guarantees of rice, guarantees of instant transformation. Chinedum Orji has refused that path because he knows that empty guarantees are how our people have been deceived for years. A guarantee is easy to say and easy to break. A contract is different. A contract binds both sides. His contract is simple: You give him your vote, he gives you his labour. You give him your trust, he gives you his accountability. You give him your mandate, he gives you his sleeves rolled up, in the mud and in the sun with you, not above you.

JUDGE HIM BY HIS OWN RECORD

This contract is built on his record, not on his father’s name. As Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chinedum Orji did not rule by decree. He ruled by word and by law. When he said the House would pass a bill, the House passed it. When he said every member would be heard, every member was heard.

When he said the Assembly would be open to Ndi Abia, traders, unions, non-indigenes and youths found the door open.

A man whose word is his bond does not need to shout. His record shouts for him. He has never been a man who says one thing in Umuahia and does another thing in Abuja.

EVERYONE WILL BE HONORED

The heart of this contract is honour.

“A Federal Constituency where everyone is honored.”

That is the cardinal promise. In Ikwuano/Umuahia today, many feel dishonoured – the Ebonyi trader told to go back to Ebonyi, the Hausa man told he does not belong, the Yoruba woman told her vote does not count, the youth told he is too small, the woman told politics is not for her, the elder told his time has passed.

Chinedum Orji’s contract says: No one will be dishonoured again. Indigene or non-indigene, Ikwuano or Umuahia, Christian or Muslim, old or young – if you live here, you work here, you pay tax here, you belong here, and you will be honoured here.

HONOUR WITH PRACTICAL MEANING

Honour in this contract is not just a nice word. It has practical meaning. It means your federal allocation will be accounted for, not hidden. It means your palliative will reach your hand, not diverted to a warehouse. It means your road, your school, your health centre, your water will be built because you were consulted, not because a contractor in Abuja was settled. It means when you write to your Representative, you will get an answer. It means when you criticize him, you will not be threatened by an aide, you will be invited to a town hall. That is what hard, honest work looks like.

THE CONTRAST: WORD VS INSULT

This is why this contract is different from the politics of Hon Obi Aguocha.

Aguocha asks for your vote and gives you insults through his aides.

Chinedum Orji asks for your vote and gives you his word.

Aguocha asks for your vote and tells you to go back to your state if you ask questions.

Chinedum Orji asks for your vote and tells you to roll up your sleeves with him.

One man divides, the other unites.

One man threatens, the other honours.

One man’s word changes with the wind, the other man’s word is his bond – and in Igboland, a man’s word is his life. Okwu nwoke bu ndu ya.

THE BALLOT IS YOUR SIGNATURE

Ndi Ikwuano/Umuahia, the ballot in 2027 is not just paper. It is a signature. When you vote for Rt Hon Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, you are signing this cardinal contract. And he is signing it too, with his name, his honour, and his future.

He is not asking you to trust a guarantee. He is asking you to trust a man. A man who has kept his word as Speaker, who will keep his word as your Representative, and who will build with you – not for you, but with you – a Federal Constituency where everyone is honored.
