GOMEP-NG 2026: Prof. Akinola to Deliver Keynote on Nigeria’s 2027 Elections

Why information integrity and public trust will take centre stage as online media prepares for Nigeria’s 2027 elections

The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has announced Professor Omoniyi Bukola Akinola, PhD, as the keynote speaker for its 2026 Annual Conference, Lecture and Workshop in Abuja.

The conference, scheduled for Thursday, November 26, 2026, will bring together online media practitioners and other stakeholders to examine the role of digital journalism in promoting credible information, public trust and democratic resilience ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

According to a release signed by Tochukwu Eluwa, National Publicity Secretary of GOMEP-NG, the event will take place at the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria Headquarters, Abuja. Proceedings are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.

The theme of the conference is “Securing Nigeria’s 2027 Elections: The Role of Online Media in Information Integrity, Public Trust and Democratic Resilience.”

Prof. Akinola’s legal and academic background

Professor Akinola is a Professor of Law with academic and research interests spanning Company Law, Legal Ethics, Legal Education, Corporate Governance and related areas.

He is a Professor in the Department of Private and Commercial Law, Faculty of Law, Baze University, Abuja. His academic profile also records previous senior roles at the Nigerian Law School, Redeemer’s University and Kampala International University, Uganda.

Akinola obtained his LL.B from the University of Ilorin, LL.M from Abia State University, Uturu, and PhD in Comparative Company Law from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Public academic profiles confirm the 2014 doctoral qualification.

He previously served as Deputy Director of Academics at the Nigerian Law School and held responsibilities connected with professional ethics, legal skills and legal education. His career has also included academic leadership positions, including Dean of Law at Redeemer’s University and Dean of the School of Law at Kampala International University.

His scholarly work covers areas including legal ethics, company law, corporate governance, competition law and legal education. He is also associated with the African Journal of Law, Ethics and Education, where he serves as Editor-in-Chief.

The GOMEP-NG conference is expected to focus attention on the responsibilities of online media as Nigeria approaches the 2027 elections.
