2027: GOMEP-NG Names Prof. Owens-Ibie Keynote Speaker for 2026 Conference

As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, GOMEP-NG has named Prof. Nosa Owens-Ibie as keynote speaker for its 2026 Annual Conference, placing information integrity, public trust and the future of online journalism at the centre of discussions.

The conference will examine the role of online media in information integrity, public trust and democratic resilience ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

ABUJA — The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has confirmed Professor Nosa Owens-Ibie, PhD, as the keynote speaker for its 2026 Annual Conference, Lecture and Workshop scheduled for Thursday, November 26, 2026, in Abuja.

The conference will be held at the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory.

It will focus on the theme, “Securing Nigeria’s 2027 Elections: The Role of Online Media in Information Integrity, Public Trust and Democratic Resilience.”

The Guild, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Tochukwu Eluwa, said Professor Owens-Ibie was selected because of his experience in communication, media and development.

Owens-Ibie is a Professor of Communication, Media and Development and a two-term former Vice-Chancellor of Caleb University, Imota, Lagos.

His participation is expected to bring an academic and professional perspective to discussions on the responsibilities of the media, particularly online media practitioners, as Nigeria approaches the 2027 general elections.

According to the Guild, the conference will bring together online media editors and publishers, journalists, academics, policymakers, political stakeholders and other professionals.

They are expected to examine the changing role of digital media in Nigeria’s electoral process and its impact on public information.

In addition, discussions will focus on information integrity, public trust, responsible journalism and the role of online media in strengthening democratic resilience.

The 2026 GOMEP-NG conference is therefore expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to examine how digital media can contribute to credible public information and responsible journalism ahead of the 2027 elections.
