Mike Igini: GOMEP-NG President Otiti Hails Courage to Speak Truth to Power

At a time when public trust and institutional integrity remain major concerns in Nigeria, GOMEP-NG President Akpovoke Otiti has singled out former INEC REC Mike Igini as an example of a public servant who, in his view, has remained committed to speaking truth to power.

Akpovoke Otiti, National President of GOMEP-NG, has praised former INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner Mike Igini for his courage, integrity and commitment to truth, justice and accountability. Otiti said Nigeria needs more people of conscience who will put the national interest above personal and political considerations.

Warri, Delta State — The National President of the Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG), Comr. Akpovoke Otiti, has commended former Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mike Igini, for his courage, integrity and commitment to speaking truth to power.

Otiti said Igini’s consistent defence of truth, justice and accountability had shown that public service could still be guided by conscience, courage and integrity.

The GOMEP-NG president made the remarks while expressing admiration for Nigerians who continue to uphold the truth despite the pressure that often comes with positions of influence and authority.

According to him, Nigeria needs more men and women of conscience who will place the national interest above personal, political or sectional considerations.

“I pray that in my lifetime, men of conscience like Mike Igini, as well as judges who fear God, such as retired Justice Clara Ogunbiyi, will rise to positions of greater influence in Nigeria.

“We need people who are not afraid to speak the truth, uphold justice and defend the integrity of our institutions, regardless of whose interest is involved,” Otiti said.

He noted that Nigeria’s development would be strengthened when people with proven integrity were entrusted with greater responsibilities in government and other public institutions.

Otiti also urged Nigerians to encourage and support individuals who demonstrate courage, honesty and commitment to the public interest.

He stressed that such values remained essential to building a just, responsible and accountable society.

The GOMEP-NG president further maintained that meaningful national progress could only be achieved when leadership was anchored on integrity, justice, accountability and the fear of God.
