The leadership of the apex socio-cultural youth organisation in Igbo land, the Ohanaeze Youth Ndigbo Council Worldwide, on Monday, condemned the invasion of Umuogodoakpu- Ngbo community, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, by gunmen, where over 15 persons were allegedly killed and property worth billions of naira, destroyed.
This is even as the Igbo youth group urged the South-East Governors’ Forum led by Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi, to as a matter of urgency, establish a regional security outfit, for the zone without further delay.
The group stated this in a statement signed by its President-General and Secretary General, Okechukwu Isigusoro and Nnabuike Okwu, respectively.
According to the group, dangerous miscreants and other enemies of the South-East geo-political zone, were taking advantage of its porous borders to perpetrate their sinister agenda on the masses, adding, “There is no better time to roll out your security outfit, being (Ogbunigwe), than now.”
While reiterating that the attack on Umuogodoakpu-Ngbo community, Ebonyi State, was allegedly done in connivance with the Nigerian Army alongside the Agila warlords, the apex Igbo youth body called on both Benue and Ebonyi states government to urgently set up a joint security committee, to bring perpetrators of the heinous crime to book.
The statement read in part: “We the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Council Worldwide have investigated the killings of Igbos at Ndiagu Orie village, Umuoguduakpu- Ngbo community, in Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi State by suspected militia of Agila in the Ardo LGA of Benue State. We condemn vehemently the killings of these Igbos”.
“It’s barbaric rogue operations of some officers, and we want the people of Agila to fish out the perpetrators that carried out these attacks. This is important to bring lasting peace and trust among people from these two communities.
“We urge youths from Umuogodoakpu-Ngbo not to resort to any form of reprisal attacks to avenge the deaths of their loved ones, even though we are aware that Agila warlords connived with rogue security officers to revenge the missing of a Naval officer, but definitely the law must be respected”.
“We, however, call for self- defence in all the border communities for any eventuality, and we urge the Government of Ebonyi and Benue States to quickly establish a joint security committee to ensure the culprits are apprehended”.
“We appeal to South-East Governors’ Forum, under Umahi’s watch, to establish the South-East regional security outfit (Ogbunigwe), to safeguard Ndigbo. They should show courage and do the needful. South-East is not safe as our external enemies are capitalising on our porous borders to kill our people, There’s no better time to have South-East regional security outfit, than now.”
Meanwhile, Famous Reporters recalls that the entire Ngbo community was devastated, on Wednesday’s afternoon, March 11 following the invasion of the area by a group of persons dressed in military uniform invaded Umagudu Akpu community.
Reportedly, the enraged group without hesitation upon arrival at the community, brutally killed over ten persons and destroyed property worth billions of naira.
This we gathered, they did in reprisal of the alleged killing of a member of the Nigerian Army by unidentified members of Ngbo community who was reported missing.
