Concerned Workers Of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education Owerri Outraged Over Ag. VC’s High- handedness, Neglect Of Due Process
The Acting Vice Chancellor of Alvan Ikoku Federal University of education Owerri, Professor Stella Lemchi has come under fire over her administration’s alleged high -handedness, maladministration and neglect of due process.
The Concerned Workers alleged that the management decisions have consistently favoured group of the Acting VC’s interests, promoting a clannish system and undermining the institution’s diverse ethnic makeup and the Nigeria university commission laws guiding the day to day running of the university.
In a letter addressed to the Pro Chancellor written and signed by some of the concerned Workers and made available to media, with the caption, ‘Correcting wrongs and saving our institution: A call for Action ‘ they said if the ugly development is left unchecked, may lead to a breach of peace in the university”
The Concerned Workers want the Council members and relevant institutions to quickly intervene to prevent further violations of administration laws as well as to ensure that the institution is managed fairly and justly.
According to the angry Workers of the Alvan Ikoku Federal University Owerri, specific concern areas that need to be addressed include, ” Absence of Professional cadre , questioning the legitimacy of the Senate , extreme emergency and faulty senate Council representative and congregation representative election which took place recently, plans to appoint retired staff as Professors, arbitrary demotion of staff without proper assessment, contrary to NUC guidelines, high risk of starting a new federal university of education on a bad note , undermining reputation , credibility and academic standards”
Continuing, the Concerned workers call for immediate investigations on the aforementioned allegations made against the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university so as to ascertain the position of things and to nip in the bud the ugly development and ensure that things are done rightly and justly.
