Just In: Peter Obi joins new party
…set to contest presidential next Tuesday
An erstwhile presidential aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and former Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has finally joined the Labour party.
Peter Obi who dumped the main opposition party, PDP is set to participate in the party’s Presidential primaries election.
Obi had, in a letter dated May 20, 2022 and directed to PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu announced his resignation from PDP, as well as a the presidential primary race.
According to the letter, the former governor expressed his profound gratitude to have contributed to the nation-building efforts of the country through the PDP.
Peter Obi wrote: “I am writing to intimate you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party, which was conveyed to the Chairman of Agulu Ward 2, Anaocha LGA, Anambra, effective Friday, May 20, 2022.
“Consequently, I am by this letter informing you of my withdrawal from the PDP Presidential Primaries
However, in what seemed like a twist of fate, Obi has formally joined the Labour Party (LP) to contest the 2023 presidential election.
Famousreporters gathered that Obi, on Friday, registered as a member of the party in his ward, in Anambra State and is expected to contest the party’s presidential primary election next Tuesday.
According to a close source, “He is leaving for the Labour Party.
“The results of various primaries of the party conducted so far have shown who most of these delegates are loyal to,” the source had said.
“So, he (Obi) is under pressure to leave the PDP for the moneybags, we are currently looking to find another party to accept him.”
Meanwhile, Obi had resigned his membership of the PDP two days before its presidential primary.
Part of his resignation letter read thus:
“I am writing to intimate you of my resignation from the PDP, which was conveyed to the chairman of Agulu Ward 2, Anaocha LGA, effective Friday, May 20, 2022. Consequently, I am by this letter informing you of my withdrawal from the PDP Presidential Primary.
“It has been a great honour to contribute to nation-building efforts through our party. Unfortunately, recent developments within our party make it practically impossible to continue participating and making such constructive contributions,” Obi said in the letter.
Famousreporters.com recalls that thousands of Nigerians had earlier protested aggressively against Obi’s initial withdrawal from the race, as they marched round some parts of the country, chanting thus; “we want Peter Obi.
