The development, observers say, highlights the growing unemployment crisis in the state, with thousands of qualified youths struggling to secure limited job opportunities.

Findings revealed that the overwhelming number of applicants for the few available slots reflects the desperation among residents seeking employment, despite various government assurances on job creation and economic empowerment.

Deltans noted that the situation paints a troubling picture of the state’s labour market, where a significant number of graduates and skilled professionals remain unemployed or underemployed.

They stressed that the competition for the health sector jobs underscores the urgent need for deliberate and sustainable policies aimed at boosting employment opportunities, particularly in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, and small scale industries.

Analysts further warned that rising unemployment, if not urgently addressed, could worsen poverty levels and increase social and economic challenges across the state.

They therefore called on the Delta State Government to intensify efforts toward job creation, economic diversification, and youth empowerment programmes to cushion the effects of unemployment.

The development has sparked concerns among residents, who described the situation as alarming, noting that the figures alone reveal the harsh economic realities facing many families in Delta State.
