2027: ‘What do you want to go do again? Me, I won’t go’– Patient Jonathan tells husband

Former First Lady of the federal republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Patience Jonathan has advised her husband, former President Goodluck Jonathan to decline all political advances to run for the 2027 general elections.

Famousreporters.com writes with reference to The Sun.
According to the publication, Mrs. Jonathan stated emphatically that she would not join her husband in running the race, as she asked in utter wonderment, what in the world GEJ was opting for in a position wherein God had elevated him to in the past.

The former First Lady made this outcry during a recent private gathering, recounting the negative impacts ruling Nigerians made on their immediate family in the past.

She advised her husband to embrace contentment rather than return to the rigors of the office, stressing that: “The Lord has lifted you to that position once already why desire it again?” she allegedly asked, stating pointedly that, “As for me, I will not go back.”

Dame Patience, who was Nigeria’s First Lady from 2010 to 2015, recalled the pressures and personal sacrifices that came with life at the helm of Africa’s largest democracy. She maintained that peace of mind, health, and family stability should be prioritized over renewed political ambition.

Her intervention comes amid mounting speculation about whether Dr. Jonathan could feature in the 2027 race. Though the former president has not publicly declared any intention to run, his name continues to surface in conversations about consensus candidates, especially among groups advocating national unity and seasoned leadership.

Political commentators view Mrs. Jonathan’s remarks as both a heartfelt family plea and a subtle political message. To some analysts, it highlights the increasing recognition among political families of the long-term toll of public service. Others argue that her position could be a tactical move to cool speculation around her husband’s possible candidacy.

With Nigeria’s political atmosphere gradually heating up ahead of the 2027 polls, the Jonathan’s seem to find themselves at the center of national discourse. However, if the former First Lady’s words are anything to go by, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan may be facing resistance not just from opponents in the political arena, but also from within his own household.

Meanwhile, as of the time of filing this report, the response of the former President to the hearty call of his wife was yet to be made public.
