2027 ABIA POLL: APC Moves to Sanction Uche Ogah Over Alleged Labour Party Support

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has distanced itself from remarks allegedly made by Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah at a Labour Party event in Isuikwuato, where he reportedly declared support for the Labour Party in the 2027 Abia governorship election. The party described the comment as reckless and anti-party conduct and announced plans to activate disciplinary procedures.

A political storm is unfolding in Abia State as the All Progressives Congress (APC) publicly distanced itself from alleged remarks by former minister Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah suggesting support for the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The party described the comments as reckless and warned that disciplinary sanctions may follow, signalling fresh tensions within the party as the race for power in Abia begins to heat up.

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has distanced itself from remarks credited to former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, following his alleged statement at a Labour Party-organised event in Isuikwuato.

According to the party, Ogah was reported to have stated that despite being a member of the APC, he would support the Labour Party to win the Abia State governorship election in 2027.

Reacting to the development through a statement signed by Uche Aguoru, Publicity Secretary of the Abia State APC, the Abia APC described the alleged comment as “reckless and irresponsible,” stressing that it does not represent the ideals or aspirations of the party.

The statement read partly:
“The attention of the Abia State chapter of the APC has been drawn to a statement credited to Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah at a Labour Party organised event in Isuikwuato where he allegedly declared that despite being a member of the APC, he would support the Labour Party to win the Abia governorship election in 2027,” the statement said.

The party further stated that the development did not come as a surprise, claiming that it had earlier suspected that the former minister might be working against the party’s interests.

“For some time, the party had reasons to believe that Dr. Ogah was operating as a mole within our ranks. This informed the decision taken a few days ago to suspend him from all party communication platforms, including official WhatsApp groups and chatrooms,” the statement added.

The APC emphasised that the party in Abia remains united under the leadership of Benjamin Okezie Kalu and is focused on securing victory across all levels in the 2027 elections.

Party leaders have recently expressed confidence that the APC is strengthening its grassroots base in the state despite the current dominance of the Labour Party in Abia politics.

“The APC in Abia today is united, focused and resolute under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu. The party is firmly committed to winning elections across the board — from the Presidential and National Assembly to the Governorship and State Assembly — come 2027,” the statement added.

The party warned that it would not tolerate actions capable of undermining its collective political ambitions.

“As such, we cannot and will not harbour individuals whose actions undermine the party’s collective goals.”

Condemning what it described as an “irresponsible and unfortunate anti-party posture,” the APC announced that it would activate its internal disciplinary processes to investigate the matter and recommend appropriate sanctions.

The party also urged its supporters and the people of Abia State to disregard the alleged comments, describing them as an act of political sabotage.

“The Abia APC urges all party faithful and the good people of Abia State to disregard this act of political sabotage,” the statement said.
It reiterated its determination to reclaim political power in the state in 2027.

“The APC remains steadfast, united and fully prepared to take over the seat of power and restore sanity in governance.”
